15 October 2026 Football Agenda: A Heavy Bill for Turkish Sides on European Nights

15 Ekim 2026 Futbol Gündemi: Avrupa Gecelerinde Türk Takımlarına Ağır Fatura

The second matchday of the Champions League was a harsh one for Turkish football. Both of our representatives came home empty-handed, and by wide margins. These two results, along with the other big European ties, define today's agenda.

Galatasaray lose 4-1 to Barcelona at Rams Park

Galatasaray hosted Barcelona on matchday two and were beaten 4-1. Coach Okan Buruk said his side played most of the football they wanted in the first half and found a goal. He said he told his players at half-time to push higher up the pitch, and that the turning point was the very early 3-1: "The match changed in an instant." Buruk also admitted the team dropped too deep towards the end of the first half.

Goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır argued that a disallowed second goal shaped the match. The goal was ruled out for offside. Çakır said the game could have looked very different at 2-0. Davinson Sanchez openly acknowledged that Barcelona were better in terms of level and stressed that Galatasaray must return to their own identity. The next target for the yellow-reds is three points away at Lille.

There were notable comments from the Barcelona camp too. Lamine Yamal called Rams Park one of the toughest away venues to play at. Rodri said playing at Galatasaray is always difficult, that they struggled in the opening minutes, and that the second half was very different.

Fenerbahçe suffer a 6-0 defeat at Villa Park

The heaviest result of the night came in Birmingham. Fenerbahçe went in 3-0 down at half-time at Aston Villa and never got back into it, losing 6-0. Villa's scorers were Johan Manzambi, Nicolas Jackson (two), Ross Barkley and Tammy Abraham. Some reports say Barkley's second goal was a penalty; the last goal came from Abraham in the 90th minute.

The result leaves the yellow-navy side on one point, after their 1-1 draw with Roma. Aston Villa rise to six points. Fenerbahçe's next European test is against Czech side Slavia Prague on matchday three. After such a heavy defeat, how the team recovers its morale will be one of the most discussed topics in the coming days.

PSG beat Manchester City 4-2 at the Etihad

In the headline game of the round, Paris Saint-Germain won 4-2 away at Manchester City. Désiré Doué (13'), Ousmane Dembélé (15') and Vitinha (32') made it three in the first half. Erling Haaland scored twice in the second half, in the 53rd and 75th minutes, but Maghnes Akliouche's goal in the 62nd minute was enough for PSG to hold on. The match had extra spice as Guardiola's return to the Etihad and City's first home game since the ruling in the financial irregularities case.

The rest of Europe: a goal fest

The rest of the round was just as goal-heavy. Real Madrid won 4-3 away at Roma, and Liverpool beat LASK Linz 6-3 on the road. Bayern Munich drew 3-3 with Viking, one of the most surprising results of the round. Barcelona's win over Galatasaray once again showed the Spanish side's attacking power.

Trabzonspor start their Conference League campaign short-handed

Trabzonspor begin their league-phase journey in the Conference League today away at KuPS Kuopio in Finland. Kick-off is at 19:45 and the match is shown on TRT 1. The Bordeaux-blues travel with nine players missing because of suspensions and injuries. The coaching staff is expected to test the depth of the squad as they pick the likely starting eleven.

The day in short: Turkish sides had a tough week in Europe, and Trabzonspor's display on the pitch offers a chance to balance the picture somewhat.

The agenda may change during the day; follow official announcements.
