The Süper Lig went into the international break after a dramatic weekend. The top of the table changed hands, a manager was sent to the stands, and one side set a league record scoreline. The league now pauses for two weeks and attention turns to the Nations League. Europe's top leagues had their own surprises too.

Trabzonspor Beat Galatasaray 4-0

The biggest shock came in Trabzon. Trabzonspor beat Galatasaray 4-0 at home, handing the yellow-reds their first defeat of the season. Mohamed Salah was the star, with three goals and an assist. The Spanish press also picked out his performance.

On the Galatasaray side, Okan Buruk's red card shaped the conversation as much as the scoreline did. Buruk was shown two yellow cards for protesting to referee Batuhan Kolak and sent to the stands. After the match he said: "I did not insult the referee, I said nothing bad. He sent me off deliberately." Some columnists blamed the manager most for the heavy defeat and criticised the game plan and the opposition analysis. The length of Buruk's ban will be settled by the PFDK, the disciplinary board. Galatasaray's first match after the break is Kasımpaşa at RAMS Park on 9 October.

Galatasaray Without Osimhen, and the Break as a Breather

The most discussed absentee in Trabzon was Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian striker was left out of the squad with a right adductor injury. Galatasaray have described it as an advanced-to-moderate muscle strain. Osimhen is in Nigeria's squad for the games against Madagascar (25 September) and Guinea-Bissau (29 September), but it is unclear whether he will play. Other absentees such as Singo and Lemina are also expected to recover during the break, so it gives Galatasaray a chance to heal.

Amedspor Lead on Goal Difference, Beşiktaş Miss Their Chance

In Diyarbakır, Amed Sportif Faaliyetler beat Beşiktaş 3-2. Goals from Gift Orban, Dia Saba and Furkan Soyalp put Amed 3-0 up. Beşiktaş replied twice: Dusan Vlahovic scored in the 55th minute and Orkun Kökçü added a penalty in the 90+8th. Amed moved to 13 points and took the lead on goal difference. Galatasaray are second on the same points. Beşiktaş and Kocaelispor are on 12 each.

Beşiktaş coach Vincenzo Italiano's words capture the disappointment: "Even with a point we would have been leaders, and I'm very sorry we let that slip."

Eight at Kadıköy: Muriqi Scores Four

The other big story was at Kadıköy. Fenerbahçe beat Eyüpspor 8-0, their biggest league win. Vedat Muriqi scored four and Mason Greenwood two, while Matteo Guendouzi and İrfan Can Kahveci added one each. Fenerbahçe rose to 10 points and Eyüpspor stayed on 3.

Two comments stood out from the aftermath. Muriqi drew attention to the heavy fixture list and the difficult conditions players face. Football Director Oğuz Çetin said refereeing decisions had affected play and results in some matches, calling it "the bleeding wound of Turkish football". He added that the club should not hide behind that. Fenerbahçe travel to Çaykur Rizespor after the break.

Other Week 6 Results

The week opened with a 0-0 draw between Kasımpaşa and Konyaspor. Başakşehir beat Gençlerbirliği 4-0 and Kocaelispor beat Gaziantep FK 2-0. Göztepe and Çaykur Rizespor drew 2-2. Alanyaspor won 2-1 away at Çorum, and Erzurumspor beat Samsunspor 1-0.

National Team: Montella's 29-Man Squad

Vincenzo Montella has named a 29-man provisional squad for the UEFA Nations League A matches. Four players are called up for the first time: Beşiktaş's İlhan Fakılı, Fenerbahçe's Bartuğ Elmaz, Konyaspor's Adil Demirbağ and Trabzonspor's Melih Kabasakal. Arda Güler, Kerem Aktürkoğlu, Barış Alper Yılmaz and Orkun Kökçü are also in the squad.

Turkey host France in Kocaeli on Friday 25 September at 21:45 and play Italy in Bursa on 28 September. They then face Belgium in Liège on 2 October and travel to Italy in Bologna on 5 October.

Across Europe: City, Brighton, Milan

In the Premier League, Manchester City beat Sunderland 5-3. Sunderland's Brian Brobbey scored a hat-trick but ended on the losing side. Antoine Semenyo scored twice, and Erling Haaland, Enzo Fernández and Rayan Cherki each scored once. Enzo Maresca's City have won all five games this season. Arsenal suffered their first defeat of the campaign, losing 3-0 at Brighton, and their 100% start ended. In Serie A, Milan beat Lecce 3-0 with goals from Pulisic, Rabiot and Moreira. Milan moved to 11 points, two behind the leading trio.
