Matchweek six of the Süper Lig is done. This week's agenda is being shaped less by the pitch than by what is happening off it: disciplinary referrals and the debate over the Galatasaray manager stand out.

TFF refers four names to the PFDK

On 25 September the TFF Legal Counsel announced new referrals. The list includes Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk, Galatasaray player Lesley Ugochukwu, Fenerbahçe's Dirk Kuyt, Beşiktaş president Serdal Adalı and Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan.

Buruk and Ugochukwu were referred over the Trabzonspor-Galatasaray match on 19 September. Buruk's file cites "unsportsmanlike conduct" and Ugochukwu's cites "irregular conduct". Both referrals carry precautionary measures, which means a restriction applies until a ruling is issued.

Dirk Kuyt is on the list for "conduct contrary to instructions" in the Fenerbahçe-Eyüpspor match on 20 September.

Serdal Adalı and Ertuğrul Doğan were referred for "statements that harm the reputation of football" made after matches. Their referrals carry no precautionary measures.

Penalty lengths are not yet known. The press is debating whether Buruk could miss the upcoming derby from the touchline. That is only an expectation, and nothing can be said with certainty until the PFDK announces its ruling. The timing and length of any decision will be announced officially.

Dursun Özbek backs Buruk

Galatasaray is sending calming messages. In a statement on 25 September, president Dursun Özbek said the club is continuing with Okan Buruk. "We are running toward the fifth title with our coach," he said. Özbek pointed out that Galatasaray has been champion for the last four seasons. He described Buruk as someone who grew up at the club, played there and is valued.

On the contract he was cautious. He said they will discuss next season together with the coach and that he has no intention of breaking stability. Özbek had also said earlier, after the Trabzonspor match, that recent reports did not reflect the truth. A face-to-face meeting between the board and the coach was reported to have taken place after the match.

The picture is one of a "crisis" narrative after poor results. Open support from the board may quiet those headlines in the short term. The real test will come on the pitch in the coming matches.

Beşiktaş's home record

Another notable figure in today's sports pages comes from Beşiktaş. After six matchweeks the black-and-whites have 12 points, 9 of them at home. For now the club's table position is being shaped by its home form, and its away record looks like the area with room to improve.

Fenerbahçe's set-piece focus

At Fenerbahçe, İsmail Kartal's talking point is set pieces. He stresses that the work paid off in last week's 8-0 win over Eyüpspor, a historic scoreline for the yellow-navy side. Kuyt's PFDK referral, however, is the part of that win that has been overshadowed.

The bigger picture

In short, touchline behaviour is being discussed as much as results on the pitch. The referrals touch the camps of three of the Süper Lig's biggest clubs. PFDK rulings are expected in the coming days, and clubs are likely to review their technical staff plans once the decisions arrive.
